Attention all plumbers in WA: are any of your customers expressing concerns about the safety of water supplied by Water Corporation?

Recently, Water Corporation had to respond to media attention given to misleading claims made by water filter companies.

Water Corporation has the following key messages for customers who ask you about the safety of the drinking water it supplies.

• Drinking water standards in Australia are among the most stringent and highest quality in the world
• In WA last year, Water Corporation supplied 419 billion litres of drinking water to communities with 100 per cent compliance with health criteria
• Water Corporation staff are experts in delivering safe drinking water, with nearly 72,000 water samples taken and 302,000 individual lab tests performed every year
• Water Corporation has no objection to water filters as such, or to any claims unrelated to health risks
• Consumers can decide to install a water filter but our water is already 100 per cent safe to drink

Water Corporation is committed to working with the industry to ensure public confidence in drinking water supplies and encourages consumers to report false or misleading health claims to Water Corporation or the Department of Health.

Water Corporation also says any company trying to sell a product on the basis of false water safety claims should be reported to Consumer Protection.
