Unpaid pandemic leave in awards stopped applying after 30 June 2022.
Employees had been entitled to unpaid pandemic leave if they were unable to work because they needed to self-isolate or because pandemic control measures restricted business operations.
On 17 June 2022, the Fair Work Commission issued a decision to remove expired unpaid pandemic leave terms and other expired COVID-19 provisions from awards.
Any unpaid pandemic leave that had already started on 30 June 2022 can continue, but employees cannot start a period of unpaid pandemic leave.
The following alternative options are available.
- Annual leave
- Paid and unpaid sick and carer's leave
- Unpaid leave and other paid leave
